How it all began
It all started in 1992 when we first heard some music with didjeridu in it, it made the hairs on the back of our necks stand on end! How many times have you heard that? So cardboard tubes were acquired and practiced on, until eventually a way was devised to make a wooden one. Surprisingly it worked, and other people started asking Ant to make a didjeridu for them. He became fascinated by the different sound qualities of the various English native woods, and continually experimented with the internal shapes and dimensions. Didjeridu was taking over our lives, and Antic Earthworks became a full time job! Since then we have continued to build on many years of experience of making, and now provide a "custom build" service. Players can either visit us to go through their individual style of playing so we can build a didje to suit them, or we can build a more general didje from specifications given. We also have an ever changing stock of didjeridus for all playing styles. In an attempt to widen our horizons we also organise various didjeridu events, including the UK's premier didjeridu weekend - Didjin' Devon. With thanks and respect to the Aboriginal people of Australia for the inspiration to change our lives through this incredible instrument. |
