Didje Roots – weekend…

Carrying on from the original ethos of The Gathering, the aim of the new Didje Roots weekend is to bring the event back to a more basic, under the stars experience, breaking down the barrier that the use of a stage can create between audience and performer.

Didje Roots will not be a festival, it will be a gathering of like minded people who have a real interest in the didjeridu. The time feels right for an old school event, with a large camp fire as the focal point, creating a very special vibe with performances and jam sessions. A second fire area will be for us to sit around, sharing ideas, cooking meals or just chilling. We are considering a totally off-grid acoustic style weekend. At present we are looking for a covered area to use just in case of bad weather.

Didje Roots will also have various workshops on offer throughout the weekend (not all didjeridu) which we hope will help to keep people busy during the day. What is important with Didje Roots , is the chance for us all to catch up with old friends and make some new ones, while sharing a love for this very special instrument, all in a beautiful setting..

This first early summer gathering will be limited to a maximum of 50 people, to give us an idea on how things could evolve with future Didje Roots events, and therefore must be booked and paid for in advance. Dates, venue and ticket info will be announced early in the New Year

Hope to see you there!……drone on

The Trad. Didje Weekend is now fully booked. Due to the size of the venue we unfortunately cannot take any more people.

However, we will be doing more TDW’s and other great events in the future so be sure to keep checking in through the usual channels and we’ll update as soon as we have some more information.

Thanks

Trad. Didje Weekend…

We’ve had to cancel the Penquoit venue that we were going to use for this weekend.

We are now working on a new venue in North Devon for the same dates, 28th – 30th Oct 2016, and hope to confirm this shortly.

Please click here for more information and book early to avoid disappointment as there are only 6 places left.

Thanks

The Gathering 2003 – 2016…

After much consideration we have decided to discontinue holding this annual event at Tapeley Park.

The Gathering has been a wonderful 14 year journey, but we feel it has now run it’s natural course. We want to leave it positive rather than letting it turn into something that no longer represents the ethos that it started with.

We never intended to let the weekend become a cheap holiday for people with no real interest in the didjeridu, and feel that it was heading that way.

The time feels absolutely right for an exciting new beginning focusing back on the wonderful instrument that is the didjeridu.

The new event will be at a different venue in Devon, which we have been working towards for quite some time, and hope to announce details soon.

We also still intend to use the first May bank holiday weekend as usual, so please remember to keep those dates free in your diary.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported The Gathering over the past 14 years, whether performers, workshop facilitators, crew or most importantly all of the people that bought tickets and supported the event, without you it would not have happened.

Thank you all very much, you have created very fond memories for a lot of souls!

We’d also like to say a very special thank you to Hector Christie of Tapeley Park for allowing us to hold this great wee event over the years in his stunning country park. We’ve met some incredible characters and had some very special times.

If you love the didjeridu then we hope you are going to enjoy what we do next.

We are looking forward to a new and exciting project, and will keep you posted as things evolve and develop.
See you in 2017
